Tips and Strategies for Managing Bullying
By:
SOS Safety Magazine

FEB

Bullying and other kinds of violence happen more often than we would like. Here is a quick list of strategies to manage bullies in your life. Talk to Someone: First and foremost, reaching out for help is key to gaining the confidence and support to manage bullies. That does not always mean that you will be able to hide behind someone to avoid the bully. The benefit of connecting with someone is getting to tell them how you feel, how it is impacting you, and to strategize with some support. After all, most of the strategies, including this one, require some practice to get better. Having someone around to coach you is important. More importantly, they can remind you that it is not your fault and that you are not alone. First Impressions: Sometimes, how we behave or carry ourselves might catch a bully’s attention. It is still not your fault. However, it might be good to develop some habits that avoid bullies in the first place (if you can). “I didn

6 Safety Tips For Walking With Your Baby: Self Defense For Moms
By:
Girls Who Fight Blog
on
FEB

The most important thing to a mom is protecting her child. That’s something I didn’t fully feel until I had my baby girl this past January 2024. It completely changed how I think about safety when we’re walking, so let’s dive right into our 6 self defense tips for walking with your baby. Tip 1. Walk with your dog A dog is arguably the number one best security system. They do all three components to self defense that we teach women in our program: deter, detect, and defend. They’re a major deterrent to attackers due primarily to their bark. The last thing an attacker is looking for is attention and a dog almost guarantees it. You can’t turn off a dog. The only way to stop a dog from barking at a clear threat would be to shoot it. And a loud gunshot defeats the purpose of shutting down a loud bark. They detect threats faster than the threat can detect them. My dog Rocky will spot anyone in our line of sight from very far away

If you are in a life-threatening situation or need help immediately, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or text “START” to 88788. This resource is accessible 24–7, and a live advocate will connect with you in real time. In the United States alone, more than 10 million adults experience domestic or intimate partner violence each year. This can take the form of physical, sexual, verbal, or emotional abuse. In all of these cases, the impact is severe, traumatic, and often potentially fatal. But please know, you don’t have to stand for it. “Abusive relationship signs can be difficult to recognize at first, but once you start to suspect that you might be in an abusive relationship, it’s vital to take action right away before it escalates into a crisis situation”, explains self-defense instructor Rachel Cheeseman. With 34 years of martial arts training, 23 years of teaching self-defense, and experience as a

Here’s another simple self defense option that can help you fight off an attacker and escape to safety. Its not fancy and not hard to do... but potentially very effective! To help you visualize, let me set up this scenario. Someone has suddenly jumped out in front of you and roughly grabbed you, snarling in your face. In the next couple of seconds, you just might be tossed onto the ground and beaten... for starters, or picked up and thrown into a car and abducted, once again... for starters. Its not time to think, its time to act! Use your head! Smash them with a Head Butt! Here’s how to do it. Quickly drop your chin down and aggressively thrust THE TOP of your head forward slamming into their face as hard as you possibly can. When this move is really done with intensity, it's gonna hurt them. Don't just lower your head into their face and just ”click&rsqu
